Controller

Accountants One is  working with a Construction Client in the Athens area looking for their next Controller.  The Controller will oversee the Accounting Department, ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, strengthen internal controls, and provide management with financial information and analysis to support sound business decisions. 

Responsibilities:

• Lead and oversee daily accounting operations, including A/P, A/R, payroll, bank reconciliations, and general accounting.
• Oversee timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP or IFRS, as applicable.
• Maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Manage weekly A/P check runs and reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts.
• Prepare annual budgets and financial forecasts and communicate significant variances to management.
• Provide financial analysis and recommendations related to capital investments, pricing, contracts, and business decisions.
• Establish financial benchmarks and performance measures.
• Coordinate annual external audits and provide required documentation and information.
• Ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal requirements.
• Lead, manage, mentor, and develop Accounting Department staff.
• Identify training and professional development needs within the accounting team.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Must have construction experience or manufacturing experience but would need to be in food manufacturing or pharma.
• Experience with Job Costing and WIP - a must have. 
• Previous experience managing and developing accounting staff.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
• Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficiency with accounting and tax preparation software.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
• ERP system experience.
• CPA or CMA designation preferred.
